Ireng-Ireng: Javanese Ash Cake

Recipe:

1. Preheat the steamer and smear some oil on the cake mold

2. Mix 2 cups od coconut milk, 1 cup of rice flour, 2 tbs of tapioca flour (or corn starch), 3 tbs of banana leaf or paddy straw ash, 1/2 cup of sugar and a pinch of salt.

3. Pour 1/4 cup of batter on the steamy mold and steam for 5 minutes.

4. Pour another 1/4 cup of batter on top the first layer and steam for 5 minutes.

5. Repeat the layering process. Once the last layer forms, steam for 15 minutes.

6. Cut it into bitesize pieces and cover them with shredded coconut.
