Beet Rose Maci

Maci is the Chinese Indonesian pao bun filled with sweet peanut. Usually maci is round, white, and has 4 red dots on it. This time I want to make something different. I shape my maci into rose flower and I use beet juice as a natural food coloring.

Recipe:

1. mix : 4 cups of all purpose flour

3/4 cup of sugar

1 tsp salt

1 egg

3 tbs of vegetable oil

200 ml beet juice (add +/- 20 ml of water if necessary)

2. let the dough sit for 15 minutes

3. make the filling: fry 2 cups of peanut and blend it with 1 cup of sugar

4. devide the dough into 25 pieces

5. fill and shape the dough into any shape you like, be creative, here´s an example

6. let the maci rest for 1 hour to rise

7. boil water in a steamer

8. when the water boils, steam the maci for 20 minutes. Do not try to open the steamer lid before

20 minutes.
