Jakarta´s Last Mangrove Forest
My collague, Birte, and I were going to the Jakarta´s last mangrove forest located behind the Tzu Chi Buddhish school in Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta.
The entrance fee for local was Rp 25.000 ($ 2) but it was 10 times more expensive for foreigner. Nevertheless, Birte paid it. North Jakarta coastal area is famous to be one of the most polluted area in the world so I expected to see a mangrove forest full of trash. I was surprised to see that the mangrove forest was actually clean and odorless. Peuw.
This 25 hectares forest is the sanctuary of 91 species of birds. Some of them are endangered species.
We loved trailing, boating, and bird watching in the area. It was almost impossible to find this tranquality in the middle of bustling city like Jakarta. We were glad to find this forest.
