Buniayu Caves: The Journey
Buniayu cave is located in Sukabumi regency, around 150 km the South East of Tangerang. It took us 4 1/2 hours to reach the Buniayu caves complex by car, thanks to bad road condition from Bogor to Sukabumi.
The Buniayu caves are hidden in the dense mahogany forest. We stopped at a small village in the middle of the forest. There was only one small eating place in the village that sold instant noodles and fried rice. It was quite clean. We had not had any meal since morning so we decided to order nasi goreng or fried rice and some mangostenes.
Several guides were hanging out at the shop where we had our meal. We asked them questions about the caves and were quite surprised to know that there were more than 80 caves in Buniayu but visitors were allowed to explore only three caves: goa Landak (Porcupine cave), goa Siluman (Ghost cave), and goa Angin (Wind cave)
The guides were beyond kind and helpful. These trained villagers were professional too. It was easy to feel welcome and safe there. They explained the dos and don´ts in a friendly manner. My girl told the guides about our newly bought LED headlights cheerfully. Then were had to make the gear preparation as other explorers who would be in our team were waiting for us to get ready.
