Nastar: Indonesian Pineapple Cookies
The name nastar derives from the Dutch words ananas taart or pineapple pie. Although the invention of nastar was inspired by the Dutch pie, the cookie has evolved into something that is uniquely Indonesian.
Recipe:
Dough: Mix 1 cup of butter/margarine, 1.5 cup of all purpose flour, 0.5 corn starch, a pinch of salt and
an egg yolk.
Filling: Blend 1 pineapple with 1 cup of sugar and a dash of cinnamon. Heat it until it forms a paste
and let it cool.
Egg washing the nastar with yolk is the hardest part of all. Once it is done, bake in an oven for 30 minutes at 250 C.
