Jenang Grendul
Jenang grendul is a Javanese dessert made of glutinous rice. Grendul means little balls and jenang means porridge. It is hard to find this dessert in the city where I live now. When I crave for jenang grendul, I have to make it myself.
Recipe:
1. mix 100 gr of glutenous rice flour, 1 tbs of sugar, a pinch of salt and vanilla powder with enough water to mix it into a dough
2. roll the dough into small balls & boil them for 10 minutes then dip them in cold water
3. boil 150 ml of water, 150 gr of coconut sugar, a pinch of salt, and 2 pandan leaves
4. when the sugar dissolves completely, add a mixture of 2 tbs of rice flour and 2 tbs of water
5. once it thickens, add the balls into it and boil for another minute
6. prepare the coconut sauce: boil 200 ml of coconut milk, 3 tbs of sugar, a pinch of salt, and pandan leaves - when it boils, add a mixture of 2 tbs corn starch and 2 tbs of water to thicken the coconut milk
