Kala Gepuk

Kala gepuk is shredded grilled chicken seasoned with spicy sauce. It´s a specialty from my hometown, Banyuwangi. This dish is simple and requires minimal effort to make it yet it is very flavorful.

Here´s how to make kala gepuk:

1. grill 1/2 kg of chicken breast and shred it

2. blend 2 big chilis, 6 small chilis, 8 cloves of shallot, and 1/2 tsp shrimp paste

3. heat 2 tbs of vegetable oil in a pan and saute the blended sauce for 1 minute

4. toss the shredded grilled chicken to the pan

5. add 3/4 - 1 tsp of salt, 1 tbs of sugar, 1 tbs of sweet soy sauce, 1 kefir lime juice, and 4 lime leaves

6. mix and saute the whole ingredients for 3 more minutes then the kala gepuk is ready
