When we reached the Arabica homestay, it was quite early in the afternoon. Not sure what to do for the rest of the day, we decided to go to Kawah Wurung, an inactive crater in Ijen plateau. Well, it was only 15 km away from Arabica homestay but the road was bumpy, narrow, and often steep.

We passed a coffee plantation, a macadamia nut plantation, and several villages before we found the grassland that surrounds the Wurung crater.

Once we left the grassland, it was a point of no return. We struggling to drive to the top of the crater. The bushes along the road unmercifully scratched my uninsured car. The sky was dark when we got to the top. I can't say that I was impressed by the view. Although the landscape was interesting,

I found it hard to believe that the large depression in the middle of the hills was a volcanic crater. We were at the top for about 1 minute when a thick fog started to fall and cover the whole landscape. It was very eerie to see the hills and the crater were "swallowed" by the fog in just a couple of seconds.

We continued our trip to the nearby coffee plantation in a very low visibility. All sort of worst case scenarios were playing in my head. I swore I would not visit this place ever again. But when we finally saw the sunset and a small village in the middle of nowhere....Hey maybe I will visit this place again......
